Tech Jobs hunting in remaining of 2024

Bit of luck and bit of hard work

Perkins. You know how in a game of football that sometimes 10 men play better than 11? We’d like you to be the 11th.

Beyond the Fringe, The Aftermyth of War Sketch

That Beyond the Fringe sacrifice was sort of how it started at my then Tech employers in January. A number of people got laid of. Thrown in at the job search deep end —I will advice read blogs and LinkedIn posts from the last tech layoff series a couple of years ago which documented numbers (hundreds) of applications made before finding success. I told my students to endeavored to do the same this time around with my experiences talking to laid off people. I hope my experiences and observations in this essay can help others if only a little, raise confidence, remind you that you’re not alone, and that your situation is not (entirely) (y)our fault.

First, some deeper dive of job layoff , then some points, in to the cracking of jobs in tech market.

Causes of the Layoffs

I feel the current waves of tech layoffs are utterly predictable.

Like earlier tech waves, too many firms are going after too little market share, setting aggressive targets to match commitments to investors. Investors hold diverse portfolios knowing full well that only some will be unicorns, but that doesn’t stop either everyone wanting to be that unicorn or unicorn growth targets being applied ubiquitously. To meet the inflated targets, hires get taken on to own them, but can’t execute miracles in the short term. This causes the execs to step in and micro-manage in the medium term, with corporate paralysis increasing with meeting overload and toughened approval processes. I have a feeling that the Supply Chain position one of great expectation yet, because of the extended, complex, multi-persona buying cycles of a tool-saturated target industry, I would likely be set up to fail. The newish hire — whether the CMO, CPO, CRO, SME, Sales Rep or Marketing gopher — gets fired at a convenient point if they haven’t left of their own accord, the Exec pulling the plug and thus having been seen to act decisively. A new CRO, SME/Market Lead, CPO, CMO, gets hired to fill the hole, rolls out a “great new strategy,” which is likely a rehash of an old one. Targets remain uniformly high, and the unhealthy cycle of corporate life continues. What happened two years ago is happening now in 2024 and will happen again in two years time.

The result: tech firms reinvent wheels, often square wheels, time and time again. Self-perpetuating cycles. They hire, then let go, rehire, let go again, and so on.

New technical and market barriers add to the predicament.

Now comes to some points which you need to keep in mind to get hired this year:

  • Make resume ATS checked & also make sure the ATS score is above 90. This is most important thing is this current market. As for one position recruiters are getting more than thousands of application. So, most of them get rejected in Resume review process.

  • Don’t constrain yourself to roles listed in your region. Remember: firms are multi-national. Even if they select a local candidate, you may find yourself on a list for future roles in your locale. Worth a shot, even if you are at a disadvantage.

  • Take responsibility yourself. Don’t assume others, e.g. recruitment consultants, will get back to you all the time. Time to approach from your side as well.

  • There is a fair number of jobs available, more and better than some of the western countries as I have been in contact with my friends but also many more of us applying for those jobs randomly without seeing what the job post is about. It’s a recruiter’s market now, try to be properly investigated yourself.

  • I met great people while I was searching my jobs, and reaffirmed friendships with others in my network. Much love to old and new friends. Try to join community. I have a community where I share job, internships & other tech related posts as well as other people share their thoughts on Discord server. Can join via this link:
